The Lake Havasu City-Kingman metro area, covering a vast expanse of over 14,000 square miles, is home to a combined population of approximately 250,000 residents. This sprawling metro area encompasses Lake Havasu City, Kingman, and several other communities in Mohave County, Arizona.
Geographically, the metro area is characterized by its stunning desert landscapes, rugged mountains, and the iconic Lake Havasu, which stretches for over 45 miles along the Colorado River. Lake Havasu City, located on the eastern shore of the lake, is known for its scenic waterfront views and recreational opportunities, while Kingman, situated further inland, offers a gateway to the surrounding desert wilderness.
The economy of the Lake Havasu City-Kingman metro area is driven by a diverse range of industries, including tourism, healthcare, retail, and manufacturing. Major employers in the region include Lake Havasu Unified School District, Havasu Regional Medical Center, and Mohave County government.
While the metro area does not have any major universities, it is home to several community colleges and vocational schools, including Mohave Community College and the Arizona Automotive Institute, which offer a variety of degree programs and technical training opportunities.
Culturally, the Lake Havasu City-Kingman area celebrates its Western heritage with annual events such as the Lake Havasu Balloon Festival and the Mohave County Fair. Both cities also boast vibrant arts scenes, with local galleries showcasing the work of talented artists from the region.
In terms of sports, Lake Havasu City is renowned for its recreational boating and water sports on Lake Havasu, which attracts visitors from across the country. The city also hosts the annual World Jet Ski Finals, a major event in the personal watercraft racing calendar.
Major attractions in the Lake Havasu City-Kingman metro area include the London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, a unique tourist attraction that was transported from London, England, and reconstructed over the Colorado River. In Kingman, visitors can explore the historic downtown district, which features charming shops, restaurants, and museums.
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy in the metro area’s natural surroundings, including hiking, camping, and off-roading in the nearby desert wilderness areas. The Hualapai Mountains, located just outside of Kingman, offer scenic hiking trails and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
