The area’s natural beauty is highlighted by the Talladega National Forest and Cheaha State Park, Alabama’s highest point, which are popular for hiking, camping, and birdwatching, drawing nature enthusiasts from across the region.
The economy of the Anniston–Oxford metro area is diverse, with a strong presence in manufacturing, healthcare, and education. Major employers include the Anniston Army Depot, which is the area’s largest employer and plays a critical role in local and national defense industries. The Regional Medical Center in Anniston provides comprehensive healthcare services and is a significant contributor to the area’s economic stability. Education is a vital aspect of the metro area, with Jacksonville State University (JSU) located just north of Anniston. Gadsden State Community College also serves the area, offering two-year degrees and technical programs that align with local workforce needs and support economic development.

While the area does not host major professional sports teams, JSU provides collegiate sports entertainment, with its football team drawing significant local support. Major attractions in the Anniston–Oxford metro area include the Coldwater Mountain Bike Trail, which offers miles of biking trails designed for various skill levels and has become a destination for mountain biking enthusiasts. Oxford Lake provides a family-friendly setting with fishing, a walking track, and picnic areas, making it a popular local getaway.
