The region is home to several major employers, including the Centre Hospitalier Régional de Lanaudière, one of the largest healthcare facilities in the area, and the Joliette campus of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), which offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs.
In addition to healthcare and education, manufacturing plays a significant role in the local economy, with industries such as aerospace, pharmaceuticals, and food processing contributing to job creation and economic growth. Companies such as Bell Helicopter Textron Canada, GlaxoSmithKline, and Olymel have a presence in the Joliette area, providing employment opportunities for residents.
Culturally, Joliette offers a rich array of arts, entertainment, and heritage attractions. The city is home to the Musée d’Art de Joliette, one of the largest art museums in Quebec, featuring collections of Canadian and international contemporary art. Additionally, the Théâtre Hector-Charland hosts a variety of theatrical performances, concerts, and cultural events throughout the year, showcasing local talent and international artists.
Joliette also boasts a vibrant music scene, with the Festival de Lanaudière, one of Canada’s premier classical music festivals, attracting renowned musicians and orchestras to the region each summer. The city’s downtown core is dotted with historic buildings, boutique shops, and restaurants, offering visitors a taste of Quebecois culture and cuisine.
In terms of sports, Joliette is home to several amateur and professional sports teams, including the Handball Club and the Joliette Rugby Club. The city also boasts a number of recreational facilities, including parks, sports fields, and community centers, providing opportunities for residents to stay active and engaged year-round.
Major attractions in the Joliette area include the Parc régional des Chutes Monte-à-Peine-et-des-Dalles, a nature reserve featuring hiking trails, waterfalls, and scenic viewpoints, and the Joliette Art Museum, which houses a collection of over 8,000 works of art spanning various artistic movements and periods.
