The main airport on the island, Kahului Airport, is located in Kahului and serves as a major transportation hub for travelers visiting Maui. The metro area is also home to the University of Hawaii Maui College, which offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs as well as vocational training and continuing education courses. Culturally, the Kahului-Wailuku metro area reflects the rich heritage of Hawaii, with a diverse population that includes people of Hawaiian, Asian, Pacific Islander, and European descent. The Maui Ocean Center, located in nearby Maalaea, offers visitors the opportunity to explore the diverse marine life of Hawaii through interactive exhibits and educational programs. The historic Iao Valley State Park, located in Wailuku, features lush rainforest, scenic hiking trails, and the iconic Iao Needle rock formation.
