Encompassing approximately 1,200 square miles, the Lawton metro area is located in southwestern Oklahoma and is home to a population of around 150,000 residents. The region comprises Comanche County, with the city of Lawton serving as its principal hub.

Comanche County Memorial Hospital, one of the area’s largest employers, provides a wide range of healthcare services to residents of Lawton and surrounding areas. Additionally, Fort Sill Army Base, located just outside of town, is a major economic driver for the region, supporting thousands of jobs and generating millions of dollars in economic activity each year.
Education is another key facet of the Lawton metro area, with institutions like Cameron University and Great Plains Technology Center offering a wide range of academic programs and vocational training. These institutions attract students from across the region and beyond, providing educational opportunities that help to meet the needs of the local workforce and contribute to the intellectual vitality of the community.
Culturally, Lawton offers a variety of cultural attractions and events that celebrate the region’s heritage and artistic expression. Additionally, the annual International Festival, held in downtown Lawton, celebrates the diversity of the community with music, food, and cultural performances from around the world.

Cameron University’s athletics programs compete in the Lone Star Conference and draw enthusiastic crowds of fans to basketball, baseball, and softball games throughout the year. Major attractions in the Lawton metro area cater to a wide range of interests and preferences. The Holy City of the Wichitas, located within the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, is a replica of biblical Jerusalem and features a passion play performed annually during the Easter season. The Medicine Park Historic District, located just outside of town, offers visitors a chance to step back in time and experience the charm and character of a historic cobblestone resort town. Additionally, the Comanche National Museum and Cultural Center provides visitors with an opportunity to learn about the history, culture, and traditions of the Comanche people.
