The surrounding counties, each with its distinct characteristics, range from rapidly developing suburbs in Cherokee and Paulding to more rural settings in Haralson and parts of Bartow.
The Marietta metro area’s economy is robust, driven by sectors such as healthcare, technology, retail, and manufacturing. Major employers in Cobb County include Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and WellStar Health System, both of which employ thousands and are pivotal to the area’s economic health. Cherokee and Paulding counties have experienced significant growth due to their increasing residential developments and expanding local businesses. Bartow County benefits from a strong manufacturing base, while Haralson County, with its more rural economy, contributes to agriculture and local enterprises.
Education forms a cornerstone of the Marietta metro area. Kennesaw State University in Cobb County is one of the largest universities in Georgia, offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs that attract students from across the nation. Chattahoochee Technical College, with multiple campuses across these counties, provides vocational training and associate degrees that support the local workforce.

While there are no major professional teams within the immediate metro area, Atlanta’s proximity allows residents easy access to professional sporting events, including Atlanta Braves baseball, Atlanta Falcons football, and Atlanta Hawks basketball. Local sports leagues in soccer, baseball, football, and other sports play a vital role in community engagement and youth development.
Major attractions in the Marietta metro area include the historic Marietta Square, known for its picturesque setting and vibrant market days. The Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Bartow County, is the largest permanent exhibition space for Western art in the U.S. For outdoor enthusiasts, Red Top Mountain State Park in Bartow County offers hiking, fishing, and boating opportunities.
