The economy of this metro area is driven predominantly by tourism, with major employers including Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, and SeaWorld Orlando. These attractions not only draw millions of visitors annually but also significantly contribute to the local economy. The region’s economy is also bolstered by a growing technology sector, with a focus on simulation and training, as well as healthcare and education.
Education plays a pivotal role in the metro area, with institutions like the University of Central Florida (UCF), one of the largest universities in the country by enrollment, and Rollins College offering a variety of academic programs. These institutions are key contributors to the region’s workforce development and innovation.
Culturally, the metro area is rich in arts and entertainment. Beyond the theme parks, the area boasts a vibrant arts scene, with venues such as the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts and the Orlando Museum of Art. Sports are an important aspect of the area’s identity, with professional teams including Orlando Magic (NBA) and Orlando City SC (MLS) enjoying widespread local support. The region also hosts a variety of collegiate sports events, capitalizing on the strong presence of UCF.
Major attractions in the metro area include the world-famous Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort, and SeaWorld Orlando, each offering unique entertainment experiences. Other attractions such as the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, located nearby on Florida’s Space Coast, and the picturesque natural springs and parks add to the region’s appeal.
