Major employers include the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), and an increasing number of technology companies, such as Tesla’s Gigafactory. The healthcare sector is also a significant contributor, with Renown Health and Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center as key players. Additionally, the area has become a hub for logistics and distribution, with companies like Amazon and Walmart operating large distribution centers.
Education in the metro area is anchored by the University of Nevada, Reno, a major public research university known for its programs in engineering, business, and the sciences. Truckee Meadows Community College provides vocational training and associate degree programs, playing a crucial role in workforce development.
