Economically, the area has a diversified economy with strengths in agriculture, especially in wine production, aerospace, and technology. Major employers include Vandenberg Air Force Base, Raytheon Technologies, and a range of tech startups emerging in the region. The area is also a prominent tourist destination, benefiting from its scenic beauty, wineries, and cultural attractions.
Education in the area is supported by institutions such as the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and Santa Barbara City College. UCSB, a major public research university, is known for its programs in environmental studies, engineering, and the sciences.
