Major employers include General Motors, which has significant operations in Warren, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, with facilities in Sterling Heights and other locations. The healthcare sector is another major employer, with facilities like Beaumont Health in Troy and McLaren Macomb in Mount Clemens providing thousands of jobs as well as essential health services to the community.
Education plays a critical role in the metro area’s development. Oakland University in Rochester offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs and is known for its research initiatives and community engagement. Other notable institutions include Macomb Community College and St. Clair County Community College, which offer two-year degrees and vocational training that cater to local industry needs.
The cultural landscape of the Warren-Troy metro area is rich and varied. The Detroit Institute of Arts, though centrally located in Detroit, influences the surrounding counties with its collections and exhibitions. The Macomb Center for the Performing Arts in Clinton Township and the Meadow Brook Theatre in Rochester provide high-quality theatrical performances.
