Beyond agriculture, the area also has a substantial military presence, with the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma and the Yuma Proving Ground serving as major employers. These installations are vital to the local economy and community.
Education in the Yuma metro area centers around Arizona Western College and the Yuma branch of Northern Arizona University. These institutions provide educational opportunities to residents and contribute to the area’s workforce development. Arizona Western College, in particular, offers a range of associate degree programs and serves as a community hub for cultural and educational events.
Culturally, Yuma is rich in history and tradition, reflecting its position at the crossroads of Arizona, California, and Mexico. The Colorado River provides a scenic backdrop for camping, fishing, and boating. The historic downtown Yuma area, with its shops, restaurants, and the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, attracts both locals and tourists.
